Wing Leader's Message

Hello Southern California Wing Members, and others,

      The last two days of May allowed members of the Wing Leadership team to attend an annual meeting in Denver, Colorado, where all Wings, Board Members and professional Staff came together to discuss the future of Angel Flight West.  This is an annual event, and also a great opportunity to exchange best practices.  I have to tell you, I really enjoyed the event this year, and the backdrop and setting was truly spectacular.  Thanks to those that attended.

      Shortly, you may receive correspondence from your Area Leaders, or myself, outlining the direction Angel Flight West will take in the future.  We are in the constant need of additional pilots.  There is no doubt that rising fuel costs have everyone concerned, so if we could get a mission or two from every Command Pilot, we would meet our goals for the year.  Last year we flew over 900 missions, and we now have 401 Mission Command Pilots on our roles in just Southern California alone.  If there is a fellow member, not flying, let’s help reinvigorate them to fly.  If you have a friend or know someone who is a pilot, let’s also introduce them to Angel Flight, and the difference we make.

      For those members who are not pilots, your ambassadorship as AFW members is crucial to our mission.  We need more outreach members, those that will go out into the community and let others know of what we do and the services we provide.  You can also find ways to put out literature, especially in your local doctors’ offices.  AFW will help provide you with the material to do this.

     As we continue to move forward, AFW will be continuously called upon to assist.  The economy is affecting many needing our help, and more and more calls are coming in for missions.  We need both the financial, as well as service related support.   If you want to become more involved with AFW, please contact me directly, as we have positions we need to fill, and events we need to attend. 

    Let’s all see if we can break the mission record for last year, and not allow the economy affect our ability to help others.   It’s a great feeling doing so.
