About the Idaho Wing
Members and Missions?
Angel Flight Idaho currently has 63 members. Most are pilots and co-pilots, however we
have non-pilots who assist with ground operations such as mission coordinators, outreach
coordinators, or simply as supporters of the organization. Most pilots own their own planes,
which are typically 4-6 seat passenger planes. Our members come from different walks of life,
but are united by a desire to combine their interest in aviation with a
unique way of helping people.
Angel Flight Idaho flew 115 missions in 2006. Overall the Angel Flight West organization flew
more than 3,900 missions last year. Missions
vary in distance, time of day, day of week, and so forth. There are many opportunities to participate
but never any pressure to fly. How much or how little you fly is up to you.
How can you get involved with Angel Flight Idaho?
As requests for missions increase in Idaho our need for volunteers increases as well. You do not have
to be a pilot or even like to fly to become a member, all you need is a big heart and a little time to spare.
There is just as much work to do on the ground as up in the skies. To become part of this exciting activity
or to hear more about how Angel Flight works, please:
To speak to a Idaho member of Angel Flight, please call or email one of the members listed on the leadership link on the side-bar, or
call the Idaho Wing Leader, William C. Owens at (208) 853-6244 or email to willieo@cableone.net
How do patients qualify for a Flight?
Angel Flight West accepts requests from individuals or health care professionals such as social
workers and physicians. There should be a financial or physical need that would make it a hardship
to travel by other means. There may also be some reason why private aircraft is the only option
over commercial transportation; for example, if an individual lives in a rural area without easy access to
commercial transportation, or is highly susceptible to infection and cannot be exposed to crowds. There
is never any fee for this service.
The patients must be medically stable, able to sit up and ride in a small plane and endure the flight.
The flights are non-emergency situations and the patient needs a medical release from their doctor.
The request should be made one week or more in advance, if possible. The patient should understand
that weather or other conditions may cause the flight to be delayed or canceled and they should have a
backup alternative.
More details on requesting a mission are available at the
Angel Flight West website or by
calling 1-888-4-AN-ANGEL.
