How It Works

At Angel Flight West we provide free air transportation via the kind services of our volunteer pilots. We fly patients to and from scheduled medical treatment. Patients are required to be ambulatory (able to walk and get in and out of the aircraft with little to no assistance) and be medically stable. Because our flights are free of charge financial need is verified. Other reasons for flying with us include living in a rural area isolated from any international airports or a patient being immuno-compromised due to treatment that they are undergoing. We only have resources to go no more than a 1000 nautical miles.

In addition, Angel Flight West has a partnership with Alaska Airlines to provide transportation to and from Alaska via Alaska Airlines.  They also are proud to be one of Alaska Airlines featured charities for donated miles.  For more information on how this program works, please Click Here.

Angel Flight West covers the 13 western states, including Alaska and Hawaii. See below in the pink area 11 of the states we cover are displayed.

AFW Service Areas

We take in all new requests for possible flights through a doctor's office, a nurse, or a social worker or case manager. They will request the flight on the patient's behalf. Several documents are required to be filled about by the doctor, nurse, or social worker. We require at least one week to coordinate the flight once complete paperwork is received.  Then once we receive the request, we enter the flight and start looking for volunteer pilots. Once a pilot has taken the mission they will contact the patient directly, and all other arrangements from that point on are made between the pilot and the patient.  Unfortunately, Angel Flight West is not a guaranteed service.
